Australian Bass

Description:Macquaria novemaculeata or Australian Bass vary in colour from silver, green and bronze. Between them months of May and August Bass migrate downstream from their freshwater homes to estuaries for breeding. The bass has an arched back that starts from above the eyes all of the way to the tail and only has a very slight tapering of the snout. Bass are a sought after sport fish with bait, fly and artificial lures and although considered excellent eating, the majority of fish are returned to the water unharmed.

Habitats:
Tackle:Australian Bass are best targeted on light tackle. Small shallow diving minnow type lures are commonly used as are surface lures that can provide some spectacular action. Small surface flies or bass vampires are popular amongst the fly anglers.
