Queensland is located on the north of Australia`s eastern coast. It boasts warm tropical weather in its northern region and big beautiful beaches along its coast. Around the top end of Queensland the Barramundi can produce heart pounding action and they can be caught in stocked impoundments and in rivers. Fishing along the coast can produce large tropical species as well as common `bread and butter` species like Bream and Whiting through out the state. The Sunshine Coast is north of Brisbane and stretches 65 kilometres along Queensland's coastline from Caloundra to Noosa. Beautiful sandy beaches are just one attraction for the land based fisherman. There are plenty of rock ledges, beaches, wharves, rivers and canals to keep any land based fisherman busy for quite some time. Brisbane is the Capital city of Queensland and is situated between the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. The Fraser Coast region is situated in south eastern Queensland about 3 hours north of Brisbane by road and is one of Australia's favourite holiday destinations. It stretches from Rainbow Beach in the south, up to Bundaberg in the north which marks the southern access point for the Great Barrier Reef. Some of the attractions on the Fraser Coast are both freshwater and saltwater fishing of many kinds, whale watching, Fraser Island and Lady Elliot Island Resort on the Great Barrier Reef. Tropical North Queensland is a region of stark contrasts. From the eastern coast where you can see the colours and wonders of the Great Barrier Reef to the wide open spaces of outback and the tropical wilderness of Cape York Peninsula. Locations like Cairns on the east coast, Weipa on the Gulf of Carpentaria on the west coast, Thursday Island of the northern tip, and many others like Port Douglas, Cape Tribulation, Palm Cove and Trinity Beach have beachers, rivers and estuaries, sheltered sand flats, rock ledges and many, many more opportunities to keep even the fussiest of land based fishermen happy. Species you can target in these areas include: Black Jewfish, Barramundi, Cobia, Coral Trout, Fingermark, Giant Trevally, Giant Herring, Mangrove Jack, Snub-Nosed Dart, Queenfish, Threadfin Salmon, Tarpon, Triple Tail, Longtail Tuna, Saratoga and Spanish Mackerel. Some of these are readily available from many land based locations, while other take a little more adventure to get to.
